We had a great experience at this charming pub with my three kids. The kids loved the proximity to the golf course, perfect for a quick family outing. The staff were friendly and accommodating, adding a nice touch to our stay.
My children wished there were better meals available for families. It would be helpful to have a dining option on-site.

A Comfortable Stay with Room for Improvement
We enjoyed a cozy night in a clean bed, but the decor badly needs updating. A highlight was the friendly staff’s attentiveness. A charming pub nearby served delicious pub fare. perfect for dinner. Advise checking water temperature before showering for comfort!

Warm bed & great staff!
The staff were super nice and really helped me out. The bed was warm and comfy, totally enjoyed it! Plus, the room was spacious enough for my needs. Only thing was the bar area could've had more options. Otherwise, I was pleasantly surprised for the price!

missingWrote a review on 04 Mayhistoric pubwelcoming staffnice atmosphereoverpriced foodpoor pricing policy
The Chequers has a charming historic vibe that attracted me in the first place. The young lady behind the bar was welcoming and friendly, which made a good impression. when I ordered a half pint, I found the £2.50 charge outrageous due to a half-pint surcharge that I’ve never encountered before. This seemed unfair and I felt it discouraged moderate drinking. I decided not to stay for lunch because of this pricing issue. I also tried the scampi but found it overpriced at £12.50, especially since it came without any garnish and only a few chips. The atmosphere of the pub was nice, but the food pricing and the strange half-pint markup definitely let the experience down.

The lack of basic amenities like a bathmat and unemptied garbage made the experience less enjoyable. the staff were pleasant, which helped redeem some aspects of my stay.

The location was convenient for dining options.
The room was incredibly outdated and poorly maintained. The shower took ages to get hot water and was scalding when it did. The lack of basic amenities, like a duvet cover or clean cups, was shocking and unacceptable.
